While conversing with my coworkers this week, I heard the same complaints about football that I heard about basketball! Most women don't understand the game! So This week I'm going to break down the basics for you ladies, and next week go over teams! Let's get you girls ready for some football!

Football is played on a field, which is exactly 100 yards from goal to goal. The coin toss starts the game, which doesn't happen in any other sport. This determines which team will get the ball first, and which side the other team wishes to defend against for the first and fourth quarter or the second and third quarter.

The first thing that happens in a game is called a kickoff, which is when one team kicks the ball across the field to the other team. The other team tries to run into the other teams end zone and score. Along the way they have 4 chances to move the ball ten yards at a time.This is called a DOWN, or a PLAY . They can do this by throwing the ball or by running the ball. If the team doesn't get to a place they feel comfortable after three downs they can do one of three things, either go for the yards to make the ten, punt the ball which is kick the ball to the other team, or go for a field goal which is kicking the ball between the yellow posts which are located at the end of the end zone.

That is basically the point of the game and what they are achieving.
The point system is: when they score a touchdown, which means run into the other teams end zone with the ball they score 6 points. After the touchdown they can either kick for a point or do another play to get into the end zone for two points.

Another way to score is called a safety. This is when you tackle the other team when they are still inside their end zone, this will give the team that makes the tackle 2 points.

Along the way there are obstacles to get to the end zone. The receivers are being covered by defenders and you block for everything. The other teams goal is to not allow you to get any points so they will try their best to knock down passes and tackle against the run so no yardage is gained. Also to make things harder, there are penalties such as offsides, which means that the defensive team went before the ball was snapped and this gives the offensive team 5 yards. On the same lines there is a false start which means that a player on the offensive side of the ball went before the ball was snapped to the quarterback and that team will loose 5 yards. There are other penalties such as holding, face mask (grabbing or tackling by a players face mask), personal fouls, roughing the kicker, roughing the passer, chop in the back, illegal formations, halo rule (being within 2 yards of the kick returner before he catches the ball)

There are three time outs given to each team for each half of the game, there are also two challenges given to each team, but they can only be used as long as the challenging team has a time out to use. The challenge means they are not agreeing with the referee's call on the field and want the ruling overturned.

It took a lot of restraint for me to no entertain this subject, no longer am I silent! My views are so strong that if anything I would have written would have been misconstrued I would have gone nuts! As a writer, I write things to get certain emotions out of people and share mine as well,but this is a totally different situation for me. Everything I've read, seen on TV about this has struck something in me. The media has escalated this to unbelievable levels. My prayers go out to the entire Vick Family, especially Mike's Mom. I hope we can all learn from this ordeal!

They built him up until he was beyond human. He was a product, a brand,and invincible to everything. Adds in every magazine, newspapers, and commercials on every channel. This was the man that greeted visitors, on billboards everywhere in Atlanta! Just as fast as they built this man up, they took all of it away! Micheal Vick went from having a 10 year contract with the Falcons worth over a 100 million, to as of Friday owing $22 million of what he's received back to them!

For the past couple years Vick has been under scrutiny consistently! The water bottle incident, which no one in the media apologized for, the Ron Mexico incident, not making the luncheon with President Bush, and lets not forget being blame for the mishaps that Marcus Vick had! He's been called a thug, and a hoodlum, and now they've made him the Poster Boy for dog fighting!

DOG FIGHTING! The average Joe doesn't go to jail for dog fighting, nor would his case make it to federal court! Mike Vick is nowhere near your average Joe, and our once invincible main is no longer invincible!

Wake Up Call

From high school, sometimes even younger they throw these young boys in an environment where everything goes. They train them to jump higher, run faster, throw further.They come from pennies to having million dollar salaries! Whose job is it to guide them? Whose job is to make them a responsible person? Alot of these young men are the 1st.... To go to school, or even to get out of their environment. As a family, community, a race, we need to step in and help guide our young men!

At the University of Iowa a couple of football players were suspended for posting pictures on facebook of themselves with bottles of Grey goose. To add to the embarrassment, 2 of the young men were later suspended indefinitely and charged with charged with suspicion of purchasing $2,016.76 worth of merchandise with unauthorized credit cards.
With all the incidents that have happen lately , not just black athletes, everyone is included. NBA,NHL,NFL, MLB, etc... need to come together. Together we can guide these men, create a program to keep them grounded.After all they invested in these men physically, they need to concentrate on their mental as well!

Saturdays Action:

Slam Dunk Contest. The young guys really brought it this year!

Boston's Gerald Green had the night's three top-rated slams, including a perfect 50 on his final flush, dethroning the defending champion Nate Robinson (NEW YORK KNICKS) and become the 2007 Sprite Slam Dunk champion. On the last jam, Green windmilled while hurdling an All-Star table. In the first round Green caught a Paul Pierce lob off the side of the backboard and flushed it home for a 48, and then covered his eyes while jumping over Robinson himself for a 47. His first-round total of 95 edged Robinson (90), Orlando's Dwight Howard (85) and Chicago's Tyrus Thomas (80).

HAIER SHOOTING STARS

Let me explain this one. Basically what they do is take a current NBA Player , a Retired Great, and a local WNBA player and put on them through an Obstical course together. Like Chicago's Team,Bulls Ben Gordon (BG), Ol Big Nose Scottie Pippen, and he's trying to come back to the NBA, and Chicago Skys' Candice Dupree.. Don't let the Cuteness fool you.. She can Hoop!

But according to the Time... Chicago's team one, but since they didn't shoot in order by Default Detriot took he victory! BUT WE KNOW WHO THE REAL WINNERS ARE! And yes the get extra money for this! $15k a piece!

The Skills & 3 Point Challenge:

Mr Flash, Miam Heat Gaurd D-Wade took over the Skills Challenge for the 2nd year in a roll beat out both Kobe, and Lebron. You Go Boy!

While His Team Mate Jason, Mr No Passing Kapono beat Out Washington's Gilbert Arenas and Dirk Nowitzki from San Antonio!

Now Lets Get To The Good Stuff:

Sunday Night Was the Grand Finale... In the 1st entry I went over the Players For The All-Star Game, and this was their chance to shine! I love to see Men in suits, and they Showed up and Showed out!

D-Wade, and Bron Bron getting their grown man on! I'm not mad at ya!

But Let me get back to the Game. There were some extras added on the list because of injuries... I'm happy to say that Carmelo Anthony & Josh Howard got in on the game Because of Sun's Steve Nash and AI's injury. But Allen still got some fresh cornrows for the event! Look at you looking like your Momma!

But I'm so happy That Melo got selected for the team, it didn't make any sense for the Leading Scorer to not be on the All-Star team... It's a respect thing! DID LA LA HAVE THAT BABY YET? Seems like she's been Preggo for YEARS!

Back To The Game...

The WEST Dominated from Start To Finish 153-132. Kobe Banked 31 points , while Mr Oh So Sexy Amare Stoudmaire wasn't too far befind with 29 points. The King ,Mr. Lebron James lead the Eastern Conf with 28 points 6 assist and 6 rebounds. This was a very entertaining game. And The Guys just had fun!

Those were the highlights from VEGAS.

Hey Chica's,

Most women hate watching sports with their Fellas mainly because they don't understand. Well It's BASKETBALL season.. and today we are going over BASKETBALL 101~ Our Way!

Positions......

The Point Guard: He's usually the smallest man on the floor. He's the best ball handler. He calls all of the plays on and off the court! Look at Jason Kidd (New Jersey Nets) and his divorce drama... Can we say "CONTROL FREAK"! Other popular shouting Guards are Steve Nash (Phoenix Suns), and Tony Parker, engaged to Eva Langloria (San Antonio Spurs). Now Be careful ladies sometimes these guys can switch up and play the Shooting Guard as well!

They also handle the ball well, and score a lot of points off the dribble. OH So Sexy, and newly single Allen Iverson-AI (Denver Nuggets), my boy B-Geezy /Ben Gordon (Chicago Bulls), and of course Miami's Sizzler D-Wade. I'm going to refrain from saying how handsome he is 'cause I heard his wife was pyscho. She also played Point in high school! Can we say "CONTROL FREAK"!

FYI a lot of these guys play small forward as well... Like Gilbert Arenas Washington Wizards, And Lebron James Cleveland Cavs

Moving on to the bigger guys.....

Small Forward: Not usually big on D (Defense). They aren't soft, but just not aggressive! And these guys are big time scorers too!They are usually smaller and quicker than the Power Foward and the center Vince Carter ( NJ NETS) the handsome Rashard Lewis (Seattle Sonics) I love that guy,The 46 million Dollar Man C Webb (Detroit pistons) and the Matrix Mr Shawn Marion! Doesn't he look just like a worker ant from Antz?

Power Forward: BIG just like I like them! They shot a lot of mid range shots (outside of the post). Plays opposite of the Center, they also play that position sometimes as well! Very aggressive , and big on Defense. My Fav is Amare Stoudemire~Simply stunning! KG/ Kevin Garnett, and Jermain Oneal (Indiana Pacers) just to name a few!

Center: BIG AS HELL, SHAQ ( Miami Heat) plays in the post, down low to do most of the scoring. Really Big on Defense. He's usually the Biggest Guy on the court. Yao Ming, Ben Wallace, and THE BEAST Eddie Curry (NY Knicks) This guy is literally 5 times my size.

Big Guys make Big Kids......

Let me get back to Tuesday night's game. The Suns were in Portland to take on The Trailblazers. Big up to the injured D Miles " What's up East St". Back to the game. Now ladies, Phoenix has been on a hell o0f a winning streak, and since Steve Nash was out ( Mr. NBA MVP 2 years on a roll) everyone was banking on Portland to stop the streak! Boy were they wrong. With Nash out Barbosa stepped up and was 3 for 4 behind the 3 point line. He had 25 points for the night, scoring 23 of those after half time. Shawn Marion(who looks like the Cartoon ANTZ) 12, Raja with 15, while Oh So Sexy out did his self with 36 points.

Now Portland's Zach Randolph stepped up with 33 points, and Brandon Roy had 27, but they could not make up for the rest of the teams.. The Suns Blazed up Portland in overtime 109 to 102.

The Knicks Defeated the Clippers last nite. Eddie Curry(Chi-Town) and Jamal Crawford both had 23 points for NY. I'm said to say they Cutino Mobely put up NOTHING, but he gets an A+ in my books for looks! Knicks 102 Clippers 90

The Cockeyed Eyed Bandied is back, just Kidding T-Mac is a handsome fellow.... Well his eyes weren't wondering last nite, he scored 33points against the Memphis Grizzles. Houston is playing with out Yao right now, so 40 year-old Mtumbo played with the youngsters,and yes he still a little game has game! Bush Head Pau Gasol stepped up and scored 30points. I just need to get this off my chest... I had a dream last nite about Mr Dahntay Jones.. Now that's a Fly Brother..But Houston went on to bet Memphis 98 to 90

Not really going to say that much about the Celtics against the Pistons. The Celtics have lots 15 games in a row. They have a lot of young talented players.. They have a 1st round pic this year... Lets hope they get some one who can complete there squad, or Paul pierce can stay healthy a full season. They played hard all the way through! Celtics 102- Pistons 109
